Helen Chadwick – Songs of the Heart

14 –16 July 2017

Songs of the Heart will be Helen Chadwick’s fourth singing weekend at Hill Cottage Retreat Centre, set in the tranquil countryside of mid-Wales. If you have taken part, seen or just heard about her workshops and performances this residential weekend provides a unique opportunity for you to be part of a group of 16 singers led by Helen.

In this workshop, we will sing songs based around poems from Russia, Chile, Nigeria and other parts of the world, by poets who have in some way kept the soul of their people alive through the darkest times. They are poets of witness whose writings have been a beacon of light. Many songs will come from Helen’s song cycle, THE BLAZING HEART, an unusual Russian tale about a man who saves his people with his heart, in a most extraordinary way. During the weekend she will use rhythmic patterns, song forms and harmony choices that are inspired by her travels in places like Bolivia, Georgia, Columbia which have seeped into her compositions.

Helen’s heart songs are uplifting with beautiful harmonies and inspiring lyrics. Her workshops are focused and fun, challenging without pressure, joyful and committed, empowering and relaxed.

Helen Chadwick has been leading choirs and singing workshops for over 30 years and has written around 400 songs for theatre, concerts and community singing events.
