Colette Power PhD is a mindfulness and self-compassion teacher, trainer and supervisor.
She teaches on mindfulness and compassion-based training and silent retreats in the UK and
Europe. For the last two years Colette has been guided by Christiane Michelberger exploring
insight practices focusing on direct experience and the nature of self.
Maya has been meditating for 35 years. She is trained in Kundalini yoga and Tai Chi. Maya
spent 12 years practicing within the zen tradition and later was ordained within the Triratna
Buddhist movement. She spent the last 6 years living in and managing retreats centres in
Sweden and Spain. In her personal practice Maya combines aspects of Qi gong, yoga and
mindful-movement. For the last two years Maya has been guided by Christiane Michelberger
exploring insight practices, focusing on direct experience and the nature of self.
What to expect
This week-long retreat offers space to examine the raw materials for transformation – our
direct experience. We’ll be drawing upon mindfulness
and compassion practices which will enable us to look beyond the layers of armour, story and
habit, to what has always been there – our original goodness, wisdom, strength, creativity,
courage and joy. We will be looking more closely at self and group-based inquiry enabling us
to see more clearly how we create unnecessary suffering through perception and through the
creation of self.
During the retreat there will be meditation instruction, movement and teachings.
There will be opportunities to meet in small groups and for personal interviews with the
teachers. Outside of these times, the retreat will remain largely in silence. This spacious
week-long format includes opportunities to connect with the natural environment, walking and
relaxing in the beautiful Welsh countryside and swimming in the retreat centre’s natural swimming pond.
Who is the retreat for?
This retreat is appropriate for people who have had some experience of mindfulness or meditation practice and also for more experienced practitioners. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether this retreat is right for you.
This 5-day teacher led retreat meets the annual retreat CPD requirement.
Accommodation is provided within a number of carefully designed barns. There is a range of single and shared accommodation (2 people) spread across the barns. There is also a small number of sleeping spaces available in traditional style ‘crog lofts’. The crog lofts are comfortable and spacious rooms built into the roof of the barns. They are accessed by ladder-stairs and are therefore not best suited for people with limited mobility. Bedding, bed linen and towels are provided. Toilet and shower are shared and there are in addition kitchens and sitting room areas. Vegetarian and vegan meals are prepared on site using fresh local ingredients.
There will be a simple breakfast of porridge at 7.15am. There will be a vegetarian main meal at lunchtime. Teas, coffee and soft drinks will be available during the day, and soup and bread in the evening.
Retreat Start and Finish times
Participants should arrive between from 3.00 and 5.00pm on the first day of the retreat and depart by 4.00pm on the last day. The first session will start at 5pm on the first day. Dinner will be at 6.30pm.

Arriving early and leaving late
It is possible for participants to arrive a night early for the event or to leave the morning after the end of the retreat, by prior arrangement and agreement with Jeremy and Zarine at Hill Cottage. A charge of £35 per night for bed and breakfast is payable by the individual directly to them.
The cost of the retreat includes accommodation, all meals and teaching.

Payment is required on registration. You may pay by credit or debit card online, or you may choose to pay by cheque. Cheques must be received within 7 days of registration and made payable to C. Power. Please contact Colette if you need to ask about other payment options, including paying in instalments (i.e. in two payments). If you want to make staged payments, an initial deposit of £70 will secure your place, and the final payment is due one month before the retreat.
After registering you may withdraw your application up to 8 weeks prior to the event start date, at which point you will be offered a refund, minus a 20% administration fee. If you cancel your place within 8 weeks of the event commencement date, we regret that no refund can be offered. If therefore there are circumstances in your life that create a risk of cancellation, we recommend that you take out cancellation insurance in case you find you are unable to attend. In the unlikely event that we need to cancel or postpone, a full refund of the retreat fees will be offered. Our liability is limited to the retreat fee, and travel insurance is therefore recommended.
