Evening of 8-10 July 2016
Helen is and internationally acclaimed composer and performer. She creates song-theatre performances and has written over 300 songs as well as opera and choral works and has recorded ten albums.

Songs for the Way Home is a weekend workshop where Helen will teach songs from her extensive repertoire based on the theme of home. She will draw on pieces like Dalston Songs, War Correspondents and The Blazing Heart. She composes songs influenced by traditional a cappella forms, from many parts of the world, as well as by classical and folk music. Many of her songs are settings of world poets and those who have lived under oppression. She loves unusual rhythms and rich harmonies.

Songs for the Way Home
We keep inviting Helen back to Hill Cottage because to sing her haunting melodies, taught by her, is an unforgettable and moving experience; filled with waves of human connection and insight. I marvel at her patience and skill in bringing together a group of disparate singers and weaving their voices into a rich sound with meaning and depth.

It is a rare gift, given with generosity, a jewel of delight. The breadth of her knowledge and experience, her vast body of work for performers and community choirs and her beautiful voice provide a strong creative ground for any singer to grow and thrive. Zarine Katrak
